Lately, Tobey began drawing using TS's PC which has a tablet for drawing and editing. I thought it would be good to start Tobey on using such software to draw since he likes to create animations so much. He wants to be an artist but when he learnt from his teachers that artists don't earn much and usually have disturbing lives, like Van Gogh who snipped off his ear, he decided an computer animation artist would be better. He was quite excited to know that he could create animation for movies! Here, CJ7 is haunted by Death Note demons.

Hi,
I'm Wendy (old time friend from NIE and friend of Tracy), wanna ask u something with regard to violin. Is there a possiblity of learning violin without the stress of having the exams? My daughter wants to learn but she is already taking piano lessons and the teacher is rather exam oriented and it irritates and stress me quite a bit. I hope that she can learn her instrument withour going thru such stress... is there such thing or am I an idealist? Thot I ask you since you are still so intune with the local music education, I hope you don't mind. And similar to you, we are Hello kitty fanatics :)
Hi Wendy,
Just to share with you my experience with my boy...we went for 1 violin exam, after that, I told myself, no more exams because I don't see the point. I think it is important that your daughter's teacher share the same vision with you. It is more important that they enjoy the process. Exams is just a paper chase, very singaporean mentality, sad to say. She can still perform well without going through exams, in fact, she might even do better without such stress and pressures. I can see that your child loves music and even initiates to learn another instrument :) so hope that love for music would not be undermined.
Music exams are only for assessment purposes, but it is really not necessary. You know one is a good musician just by listening. That's why prestigious music colleges still go by the traditional music auditions or even tape recording method of assessment.
I can imagine the pressures you go through because parental commitment can be very high. That said, the teacher also plays a very important role so do choose carefully :), it can make a big difference in nurturing their musical interests.
Hope this helps! Keep in touch.
Pauline
Thanks Pauline.
Guess I need to talk to the piano teacher soon cos she just got promoted to grade 2 lessons. She is alright with the playing part but not the theory. So, I guess for violin, i will realy go for pure enjoyment of learning the instrument then.
Thank you very much.
Hi Mich,
Thanks for your concern the past few days, and yes, you caught a good angle in the pix haha!
Wendy, I think the theory part will come with better understanding of music. Takes time but not necessary to send for theory exams. However, it is still up to you...For violin, the concentration is on technique, foundation and playing, not so much on theory.
